Class Session: 2022 Session 1
Obedience II is an intermediate class for individuals who have already passed all Tier A classes (CGC, FIC, and Ob I). This class will focus on all of the exercises in AKC obedience with the exception of the scent detection and retrieval exercises. You will learn how to perform a formal, attentive, well-positioned heel, signaled commands and commands in motion, positions commands at and away from heel and front positions, a placement and “go-out” command, direction commands, long stays and out of sight stays, and get introduced to the AKC broad and high jumps. This is a great class both for individuals interested in competing with their dogs in obedience, as well as handlers who just want to have more solid obedience on their dogs.
Additional Class Information
In Obedience I class, you will continue refining obedience exercises learned in CGC and FIC as well as introduce new skills. The skills that we will sharpen include: loose leash walking, sit, down, recall, stays, separation, and manners with people and other dogs. We will introduce or refine the nuances of proper heeling (halts, front, finish), figure eights, stand, leave it, and go outs. These exercises will help you bond with your dog and learn exercises needed to be a calm and well-mannered dog. Fun obedience games will be incorporated into this class, and all exercises will be applicable to real life.

Class Tier System
Our goal is for dog and handler teams to progress through a structured curriculum of classes that are grouped in levels of ability. Before students may progress from Tier A to Tier B, we strongly recommend teams pass all Tier A level classes. For Tier B through Tier D, progression depends on student ability.
* STAR Puppy
* Tier A classes (beginner): Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Focus and Impulse Control (FIC), and Obedience I (Ob I).
* Tier B classes (novice to intermediate): Tricks Novice/Intermediate, Agility Foundations, and Obedience II (Ob II).
* Tier C classes (intermediate): Agility I and Rally I.
* Tier D classes (advanced): Agility II, Rally II, and Show N Go.
* Specialty classes (conditional).
We adapted the AKC STAR Puppy and CGC classes to fit our club needs. We offer AKC testing for these two classes at the end of every session. We suggest that teams first progress from STAR to CGC, which follows the AKC program design. Tier A level teams may then take FIC and Ob I to finish off Tier A class progression. Please talk with instructors or the Director of Training if you have questions about class progression or availability.
