History of the Golden Spike Dog Obedience Club
Golden Spike Dog Obedience Club was formed in the early 1980"s by a group of dog owners interested in forming a club where they could get together once a week and train their dogs.
The first General meetings were held at the Weber County Library and the club trained at Idlewire Kennels. In the summer GSDOC held classes at the Roy City park to earn money so the club could rent the National Guard Armory in the winter for a place to train. Money was also raised by holding fun matches in numerous parks in Salt Lake. After many years of effort, Golden Spike became a sanctioned AKC obedience club. Later as agility became more popular GSDOC also received permission from AKC to hold agility trials. The club works hard to provide a venue where pet owners and club members alike can come and train their dogs. GSDOC holds monthly meetings where a variety of dog related topics are discussed with knowledgable speakers presenting information on many interesting topics.
A summer social and a Christmas party are held each year providing opportunities to socialize with people who share their lives with furry, four-footed friends. Many great friendships have been built over the years as dedicated volunteers have worked to make GSDOC a great organization that works to promote responsible pet ownership, training opportunities, and helpful information about the sport of canine performance events. Come join us and discover the joy of playing, learning, teaching, bonding with your dog and building life-time friendships with people who know exactly what you mean when you say my dog is a member of my family.
